STMicroelectronics' X-NUCLEO-IHM15A1 dual brush DC motor driver expansion board is based on the STSPIN840. It is designed for easy evaluation and proof of concept. It’s the next member of the X-NUCLEO series and it can be very easily connected to STM32 NUCLEO boards (NUCLEO-F401RE, for example) through the standard Arduino™ UNO connector. Using this hardware solution combined with firmware the X-CUBESPN15 package provides the complete environment for running a brushed DC motor. The STM32CubeMX and ST-Link are also required.
The STSPIN840 is a very compact dual DC motor driver designed to drive two bi-directional brushed DC motors at the same time. Two outputs of the driver can also be used in parallel mode to transform the device into a more powerful single full-bridge driver able to deliver phase current up to 3 ARMS. Since the operation voltage of the STSPIN840 is from 7 V to 45 V, it is designed mainly for industrial applications like service robots, ATMs, money handling machines, stage lighting, textile and sewing machines, and many more. As is every driver from ST, the STSPIN840 is also fully protected: non-dissipative overcurrent protection, cross-conduction protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockout. Everything is integrated into a 4 mm x 4 mm package using STMicro's proprietary state-of-the-art 180 nm BCD process.
